Summer – What Summer?

It is times like this that I wish I had summer off.  Work has been crazy busy, and not in a good way, since May and summer has come and nearly gone without me having time to notice it.  I was starting to feel disgruntled about this so I thought I better sit down and think about the things that I was able to do this summer instead of thing things I was not.

I attended BlogHer13 in Chicago in late July with some amazing friends.  It was a whirlwind of a trip, but I met lots of nice people and got to see a bit of the city.  I saw the famous bean,  I did yoga in Millenium Park, I ate some great food and even won a prize at the BlogHer13 expo.  I got to hang out with amazing people, make some new contacts and learn some new things.  It was a productive and fun few days in a city that I would like to visit again.

The Man, and I went to Las Vegas in early August and had an amazing few days there.  We ate, drank, played, walked and made merry.  We saw KA (Cirque Du Soliel) and Bruno Mars in concert.  I really wanted to see Bruno Mars and his Moonshine Jungle Tour made a stop in Las Vegas so my sweet husband, AKA The Man, (who I think is sure I am going to melt down if I don’t get some stress relief from work) purchased tickets and planned the trip.  We had so much fun!  I was able to escape from the demands of work and took no calls for four days!  Right now – that is pretty huge.

Las Vegas 2013

I have begun my training to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Charlotte, North Carolina with my team mates, Jessica and Kristita.  Antonello Restaurante held a fund raiser for us Thursday which was a fun event and will help us meet our fund-raising minimum.  Many family and friends attended to show support which made it even more special.

Yesterday I got to spend time with my mom and sister getting  massages and going to lunch.  The stop at work to get some things done didn’t even undue the good of the massage.  Today I am taking time to do some writing which is not something I have been able to do in several weeks.  This weekend has been a wonderful respite after two pretty intense weeks.

For  now I will focus on the bits of fun I had this summer and enjoy what is left of it. I am hoping that getting back to a regular walking routine will help me to organize my thoughts (walking has a way of doing that for me) and to calm my mind.  I am going to try to keep the feeling that I am constantly forgetting to do something from overtaking me.

One thing that I wont have to worry about forgetting to do is back up my computer.  The lovely people at BackBlaze, who I met through BlogHer13, gave me a one year membership to their online back-up service to try out.  My initial back-up is complete and it was super easy to set up and get going.  If my computer crashes, my external hard drive fails or if anything happens to all or some of my data, they will send me my backed up file(s).  They also have an online mobile app which allows you to access your backed up files from anywhere!  Since I am terrible about remembering to back up my files, this is going to be a godsend for me.  After the initial back-up, which can take some time depending on how much you have to back up, the service just backs up new content automatically.  It really is painless.  The service is just $5 per month!  They have given me a one year subscription to give away to one of my readers – yippee!  If you would like to be free of the burden of remembering to back up your files for the next year, please leave me a comment on this blog post and let me know.  I will draw a winner from all the people who have commented before September 1, 2013.  All you have to do is indicate you are interested and leave an email address that I can contact you at.  Easy!

  1. I always enjoy your posts Terri and am glad you had some respite from work this summer. Would love to be entered into your contest as our computer is on its last leg and I know one of these days will die and I don’t want to miss anything. I am terrible at backing up too. Thanks! 🙂

    • I just selected the winner of the backblaze subscription and Rebecca Colby is the winner. I will be emailing the subscriptions code. Congratulations! Thank you to everyone who entered.
