Living Happier

I decided this year was going to be a good year. A healthier year and a happier year than last year. I was excited when I opened Facebook one day and saw an advertisement for an app called "Happier".  I decided to give it a try. The idea behind "Happier" is to encourage people to keep track of the happy moments in their day which will encourage and provide an uplifting boost whenever needed. The idea is based in research that, in a nut shell, indicates that happiness is contagious and being … [Read more...]

TinyPrints – Beautiful Cards for Every Occassion

The late fall and early winter were a whirlwind of activity.  I am just now able to take a deep breath and refect on all of the activities that I participated in October through December. Early in November I got a message from Pauline (AKA the Craft Maven) asking me if I would like to attend a dinner party and learn about the cool new things Tiny Prints had available just in time for the holidays. After working past the extreme flattery of being invited to an event Pauline was hosting … [Read more...]

New To Me – I Like!

I  recently was sent a couple of products to try out and found that I liked them quite a lot. Coffee-mate sent a bottle of each of their Girl Scout Cookie™inspired creamers to try. They happen to be two of my favorite flavor profiles - Thin Mints® and Caramel & Coconut. They were both delicious, but I am a big fan of Thin Mints® so that flavor was my favorite. My husband preferred the Caramel & Coconut. They made my morning coffee even better than usual. The price point for a 16 oz … [Read more...]

Keurig® Brew Over Ice – yes please!

I have had a Keurig® coffee maker in my office for the past several years. It is a workhorse and I love it.  So do the frequent visitors to my office. I believe wholeheartedly that some of those visitors come just for the coffee (you know who you are - I am on to you). At Blogher13 I was immediately drawn to the booth in the expo hall with all of the Keurig® machines. It was mid-morning and I figured another cup of coffee couldn't hurt. I was very excited when I realized they were … [Read more...]

Got Stress? So What Are You Going to Do About It? Part 2

If you are like me, stress manifests itself in physical ways. Even if I don't cognitively realize I am stressed out, my body knows.  My shoulders draw up and the muscles in my upper back and neck contract.  Next comes the headache.  I am prone to migraines.  Stress may not trigger a migraine, but it certainly can add fuel to the fire. Pain certainly doesn't help anyone's stress level. I find therapeutic massage to be very helpful in managing and reducing the physical manifestations of stress. I … [Read more...]

A Book Worth Reading – A Novel About Alzheimer’s

I just finished Still Alice, by Lisa Genova.   The book tells the story of a 50 year old Harvard Psychology professor who has early onset Alzheimer's disease.  It is a novel, but it is evident that the author did her homework.  This opinion is purely my own, but I feel it is an educated opinion. A little over 20 years ago, as a student in the Music Therapy program at CSULB, I worked as an activity coordinator at the John Douglas French Center for Alzheimer's Disease.  At that time, … [Read more...]

I am just back from attending Blogher12 in New York City.  The city was amazing and the conference was fabulous.  One of the sessions that I attended and enjoyed a great deal had to do with iPhonography. iPhonography is the art of creating photos with an Apple iPhone.  I am an amateur photographer and I always have my iPhone with me so iPhonography is something that is very relevant for me. The quality of the camera on recent models of the iPhone is amazingly good - so good that it rivals stand … [Read more...]

Wardrobe Treasure Hunting at the Goodwill

I love clothes, I love a bargain and I love companies that employ people who are differently abled. It would follow that I would be a big fan of Goodwill Industries. While I have faithfully donated to the Goodwill over the years, I only went there to shop when I was in need of a Halloween Costume or a gag gift. Recently my friend Jessica asked me if I wanted to attend a shopping event with her called "Goodwill Hunting" hosted by Nicole Longstreath.  I said "sure, why not!" and so began my … [Read more...]

Meatless Monday – Spicy Stir Fry with Tofu

My husband bought me a T-Fal Actifry for my birthday. So far I really like it.  At first I was a little dubious about it since it did not appear to be that sturdy, but so far it has cooked up a storm with no problems at all. Tonight I threw together a stir fry. It was made with firm tofu I got at my local Costco, veggies and a sauce I made up from stuff I had on hand.  I like tofu, but have never done much with it. I figured a safe place to start would be a stir fry. To start, I lined a … [Read more...]

Try This at Home

This summer when I attended the BlogHer conference I met representatives from many companies there looking for bloggers to review products. The thought of having companies send you product free of charge to try out in exchange for a review is very enticing. I tried to be very selective in choosing which companies I was willing to consider doing reviews for. I didn't, and still don't, want my blog to become an advertisement. That being said, I do have opinions and I am willing to share, so I … [Read more...]
