I know when the witching hour is, now when is the blogging hour again?

I have a full life. By full, I mean busy.  I work full-time and my job is almost always stressful these days. I am in a position that carries a great deal of responsibility. I often have to make decisions that not the easy thing or the popular thing.  I could find another job in my field that was more fun,  but I feel that what I am doing now is important and makes a difference so I will keep doing it. A typical week day for me involves getting up before the sun comes up, working until the … [Read more...]

Happy Adoption Day Ann Marie!

A year ago today Tom and I adopted our dog Ann Marie. The year has gone by fast, yet it seems like we have had her forever. We adopted her from the San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter . She is not the dog we thought we were looking for at all, but it is apparent that she is exactly the dog we were meant to have. She is a pure bred mutt. Her DNA results say that one of her parents was half Shar Pei and one parent was half Chow Chow. The rest is a mix of other breeds, none of them … [Read more...]

Almost Silent Sunday

I like to walk.  I walk a lot. I find it therapeutic. I see interesting things on my walks.  Today I saw a giant white rabbit in a stroller. Here are some other things I have seen on my walks. … [Read more...]

Super Bowl Sunday – Found Time

I am not a huge fan of professional football. I have seen a couple of games in person, which I find far superior to watching the game on television. That being said, football is almost always on in my house during the season. My husband claims not to like professional football, preferring college ball; however, football is always on during the season - regardless of if it is college or professional ball. It becomes background noise from fall through the Super Bowl. It is always … [Read more...]

New Year, New Goals

The dawning of a new year always fills me with a sense of promise. It feels like a fresh start, even though the reality is, it isn't. Just the illusion of a fresh start is enough of a motivator to rededicate myself to things I find important. It is a looking forward with a sense of wonder, hope and excitement. The start of 2013 was no different. Over the years I have figured out that, for me, New Year's resolutions serve no purpose. I am good at thinking them up, am very enthusiastic at … [Read more...]

Get Old – Yes Please!

Someone recently said to me "whatever you do, don't get old". I am not going to take that advice!  I have every intention of getting old, hopefully very old. What I am going to strive to do is find a way to live a happy and healthy life while I age gracefully. To keep my mind healthy and my spirit happy I plan to continue to read every day; play games that require mental dexterity; interact with people who challenge me mentally; make music; travel; volunteer; practice yoga; walk; be … [Read more...]

National Yoga Month

September is National Yoga Month (a national observance designated by the Department of Health & Human Services) designed to educate about the health benefits of yoga and to inspire a healthy lifestyle.  As a result you can find a lot of information about yoga this month online. Yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years.  Yoga is quite popular in the United States with nearly 11 million people nationally practicing yoga.  Most westernized yoga classes focus on physical poses, called … [Read more...]

Let’s Get Physical – Change Starts Today!

Today I started the "Let's Get Physical" weight loss challenge. I will be participating along with about 40 other women - most of whom I have never met. Over the next 8 weeks we will become a community striving to meet a common goal - to get fit and lose some weight in the process. During the challenge I will strive to reset my "lifestyle" and work toward being more healthy and fit. I hope to lose 15  pounds and to do so in a way that will enable me to keep it off. I am not looking at this as … [Read more...]

Be Kinder Than Necessary

Over the past week or so people have seemed crabby, mean and inconsiderate.  I have experienced it myself and have heard of others who have had similar experiences.  For example:  the other day a woman behind me honked angrily and repeatedly at me because I stopped to let someone who was in the cross walk finish crossing the street before I turned; yesterday a woman honked, screamed and acted as if she was going to run into my friend and I in the drive through at McDonald's (don't panic, we were … [Read more...]

Wardrobe Treasure Hunting at the Goodwill

I love clothes, I love a bargain and I love companies that employ people who are differently abled. It would follow that I would be a big fan of Goodwill Industries. While I have faithfully donated to the Goodwill over the years, I only went there to shop when I was in need of a Halloween Costume or a gag gift. Recently my friend Jessica asked me if I wanted to attend a shopping event with her called "Goodwill Hunting" hosted by Nicole Longstreath.  I said "sure, why not!" and so began my … [Read more...]
