Join Me in Choosing Positivity and Happiness

This year I made a promise to myself to focus on being positive and happy; to strive to see the good things in every day and every situation; to surround myself with positive people and things; to expand my horizons. Over the past couple of years I feel like I was becoming more and more negative and, along with that, less happy and upbeat.  I theorize this change in mental outlook was leading to things like high blood pressure, dental issues (I broke several crowns - I am a legend at my … [Read more...]

Honesty Please

I like to think that I am a pretty flexible person when it comes to most things, but a few things I will not compromise on.  One of these things is honesty.  I am an honest person and I expect the same from others.  I think that sometimes people have issues with me because I am so honest and perhaps not always as delicate as I should be in presenting the truth.  I can be very direct and even blunt at times.  I try to be as delicate as I can.  I am not above fluffing the truth up a bit so it … [Read more...]

Living Happier

I decided this year was going to be a good year. A healthier year and a happier year than last year. I was excited when I opened Facebook one day and saw an advertisement for an app called "Happier".  I decided to give it a try. The idea behind "Happier" is to encourage people to keep track of the happy moments in their day which will encourage and provide an uplifting boost whenever needed. The idea is based in research that, in a nut shell, indicates that happiness is contagious and being … [Read more...]

30 Day Challenge – 30 Notes in 30 Days

The September challenge that I chose was particularly enjoyable. The challenge was 30 notes in 30 days. When I started the challenge, it was my intention to send a note every day. Whale I didn't send a note each day, I was able to send 30 notes over the course of the 30 days. I sent notes to old friends, to acquaintances and to people I hardly know. I sent notes to say thank you, notes to wish friends happy birthday, notes of appreciation, notes to just say "hello" and notes to let people know … [Read more...]

Summer is NOW Officially Over

Since Labor Day people have been saying "Summer is officially over". This is not accurate. While labor day marks the unofficial end of Summer, it is not the official end of Summer. The start of Autumn or "Fall" as it is commonly referred to in the United States and Canada, is  when summer is officially over. The season officially begins at 4:44 p.m. eastern daylight time during the autumnal equinox, which is today. The autumnal equinox is when the sun crosses directly over the Earth's … [Read more...]

Summer – What Summer?

It is times like this that I wish I had summer off.  Work has been crazy busy, and not in a good way, since May and summer has come and nearly gone without me having time to notice it.  I was starting to feel disgruntled about this so I thought I better sit down and think about the things that I was able to do this summer instead of thing things I was not. I attended BlogHer13 in Chicago in late July with some amazing friends.  It was a whirlwind of a trip, but I met lots of nice people and … [Read more...]

Teachable Moment Lost

Once upon a time there was a 10 year old girl who attended 5th grade at an elementary school in Southern California. At her school they taught 4th 5th and 6th grade students the concept of entrepreneurship. Each year they held several events promoting entrepreneurship. Students created businesses and worked with a token economy. At the end of the year, they could trade the tokens they "earned" for prizes. This particular 10 year old girl and her friends were quite industrious. They created … [Read more...]

The Wide World of Podcasts

I like to make the best possible use of time  because, I never seem to have enough time to do everything I want to do. Naturally finding as much time to do things I enjoy is a challenge I happily accept. I recently lost my carpool buddy when she moved out of the area. I now spend at least five hours a week alone in my car. That is WAY more time than I should be left alone with my thoughts. You cannot imagine the trouble I can dream up in an hour if left to my own devices. I love music (music … [Read more...]

Back in The Day – When the World Seemed Simpler and Safer

Today two bombs went off near the finish line at the Boston Marathon killing and injuring people who had gone out to see the race - perhaps the crown jewel of American marathons.  What should have been a joyous celebration of a great accomplishment for the athletes who participated, became a nightmare for those affected - and aren't we all affected? I was there in 2004 watching my husband run and finish the Boston marathon.  It was a great day, in a great city at arguably the greatest … [Read more...]

Be Extraordinary – I Dare You

Today, Passion or Palm Sunday, is the start of holy week for the Christian world.  During this week, Christians remember the final days of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. It is the most holy time of the year for Christians around the world and culminates with Easer Sunday when Christian's celebrate Jesus' rising from the dead. Whether you are Christian or not, I am sure you know who Jesus is. He has been called many things throughout the ages-Savior: Redeemer; Prince of Peace; Son of … [Read more...]
