Join Me in Choosing Positivity and Happiness

This year I made a promise to myself to focus on being positive and happy; to strive to see the good things in every day and every situation; to surround myself with positive people and things; to expand my horizons. Over the past couple of years I feel like I was becoming more and more negative and, along with that, less happy and upbeat.  I theorize this change in mental outlook was leading to things like high blood pressure, dental issues (I broke several crowns - I am a legend at my … [Read more...]

In My Neighborhood

I‘ve decided that 2014 is going to be a year of positive change and discovery. So far, in the realm of change, we had new front doors installed and the exterior of our house painted. We went with a totally different look for both the door and the house - quite bold for us. A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I (along with our pup Ann Marie) stopped in San Juan Capistrano at Starbucks to get a cup of coffee. Originally we were on the way to the Dana Point Harbor for our usual … [Read more...]

In My Own Backyard

It always amazes me all the stuff that goes on in my own community that somehow I don't know anything about until the very last minute.  Perhaps it is because I am not that good about reading the local newspaper.  This weekend was a good example. Lobster Fest, Highland Games and The Elephant Parade all happening this weekend.  Any of these things sounded like a lot of fun, but it was the Elephant Parade that I was interested in. I heard about the elephnt parade some time ago, but the extent … [Read more...]

30 Day Challenge-Be Active

I have been trying to lose weight for the last several years. I am slowly headed in the right direction, but at a snail's pace. In the past I have been most successful at loosing weight when my activity level was consistently high (like when I was training for marathons). During these times I did little else in my free time except train, but I was in the best shape of my life. I want to get my fitness level back up and my weight down a bit, but I don't want to spend all of my free time working … [Read more...]

BeFit Go By Lionsgate

Lionsgate entertainment is premiering an all-now BeFit Go video today. It is called BeFit Go | 20 Minute Cardio Power. The promotional information sent with the early link to the video describes the workout as "an intense, calorie blasting cardio circuit workout that boosts metabolism through a unique combination of exercises that include ski jumps, air squats, and jumping lunges." I confess, I have not yet done the workout, but I did watch it with my husband who is a boot camp junkie. … [Read more...]

The Wide World of Podcasts

I like to make the best possible use of time  because, I never seem to have enough time to do everything I want to do. Naturally finding as much time to do things I enjoy is a challenge I happily accept. I recently lost my carpool buddy when she moved out of the area. I now spend at least five hours a week alone in my car. That is WAY more time than I should be left alone with my thoughts. You cannot imagine the trouble I can dream up in an hour if left to my own devices. I love music (music … [Read more...]

Belgium and The Netherlands – Accidental Pleasure

A little over two years ago my husband and I went to The Netherlands and Belgium. I always say we went there by accident which is the best way I can describe how we happened to end up there.  It was one of the most amazing trips we have ever taken. It was our first time ever to Europe. We had a bunch of frequent flyer miles and we knew the dates during which we could take a vacation. My husband did the research and the choices for destinations for the time period we had available were … [Read more...]

Beef Tenderloin with Port Mushroom Sauce – New Year’s Day Dinner?

Well Hello There!  I have missed you. October through the end of the year is always the busiest for me.  In addition to the holidays that occur during these months, my wedding anniversary and birthday also happen.  This year I was determined to try to stay as relaxed as possible and enjoy the ride.  As a result, I did not do much writing over the last few months.  I guess I gave (all 3 of) you a break from reading my blog.  I hope you enjoyed your time off because I plan to get back into … [Read more...]

Easy Popcorn Balls

I came upon an easy recipe for popcorn balls recently and tweaked it a bit at the request of my mother who really likes white chocolate and almonds. I have made a few variations of this recipe and all have been a hit. The original recipe is from Martha Stewart's Everyday Food magazine. Easy Kicked Up Popcorn Balls 16-18 cups freshly popped popcorn 2 Tbs Butter 1 bag mini marshmallows 1/2 - 1 cup chopped almonds 1/2 bag white chocolate chips Salt Melt butter in a large pot. Add … [Read more...]

iPhonography

I am just back from attending Blogher12 in New York City.  The city was amazing and the conference was fabulous.  One of the sessions that I attended and enjoyed a great deal had to do with iPhonography. iPhonography is the art of creating photos with an Apple iPhone.  I am an amateur photographer and I always have my iPhone with me so iPhonography is something that is very relevant for me. The quality of the camera on recent models of the iPhone is amazingly good - so good that it rivals stand … [Read more...]
