30 Day Challenge – Move More!

I took a break from doing 30 day challenges during the holidays. I probably should have taken the break a month or two before I did - my last two challenges were a bit half hearted. I took January to reset - It’s a new year and I have new resolve. It’s time to get back to 30 day challenges. For me 30 day challenges are, in large part, about trying new things and forming new habits.  This month’s challenge isn’t so much about trying something new, but getting back to something and maybe … [Read more...]

Getting Healthy in 2014

The following post has been sponsored by Alomune. Healthy living is something I have decided to focus on in 2014. Last year was particularly stressful and I let it get the better of me. I gained weight, my blood pressure got high enough to require medication, I stopped practicing yoga and exercising regularly, I wasn't eating well and generally spent the year feeling a little off and crabby. Not only was my physical health impacted, but my mood and attitude suffered. I found myself being … [Read more...]

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer – Charlotte (Part 3 – The Walk)

The first day of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer - Charlotte, 2013 started with the alarm going off at 0'dark thirty. We popped out of bed, got dressed, grabbed some coffee and headed downstairs to walk over to opening ceremonies.  Jessica ran into a walker (Connie) who was doing the walk alone and she became an honorary member of our team.  Connie walked with us on and off for the next two days. We arrived at opening ceremonies (in front of the Nascar Hall of Fame) in plenty of time and … [Read more...]

Music To Motivate

My favorite way to get and stay fit is walking. No special equipment is needed except a good pair of shoes, and for me, my iPhone. When I walk for fitness, I commonly walk for more than an hour at a time. While I enjoy walking with friends (including the man and the dog), I sometimes have to walk alone. My alone walks are often my high mileage walks. I don't find many people willing to walk 10 or 15 miles with me. When I walk long distances alone, I need something to motivate and distract me. … [Read more...]

30 Day Challenge – Yoga

I am 22 days into my daily yoga challenge and so far I have not missed a day! All of my practices have been selected from the YogaGlo website. I have not stepped foot in a yoga studio for a month! I have not felt as if it would be a good idea to go into a hot, moist studio to practice yoga and unfortunately the studio I belong to has no other viable choices for me. Even the Ashtunga classes I love are "lightly heated" which in the summer can mean it is upwards of 88 degrees in the room. I … [Read more...]

30 Day Challenge – Daily Yoga

Today starts a new 30 day challenge for me.  Wont you join me?  For the next 30 days I am going to attempt to practice yoga every day.  I am going to shoot for at least 20 minutes per day, more when I have the time.  I have been practicing yoga for about 5 years now.  I enjoy it very much and find it to be quite beneficial.  I have written other posts about the benefits of yoga - my blog is called Om Seeking Balance after all. During the five years I have practiced I have attempted, and not … [Read more...]

30 Day Challenge: Be Active – Day 30

On June 1, 2013 I made a personal challenge to be purposefully active for at least 15 minutes for the next 30 days.  Honestly, I thought I was setting the bar fairly low, I even felt a little guilty about setting such a low standard for myself.  What I found was the goal was not that low after all and on same days it was a challenge to achieve.  It is now June 30 and I am proud to say, I was able to be purposefully active for at least 15 minutes every day during the last 30 days! June turned … [Read more...]

Guest Post – Maintaining Fitness While Battling Cancer

Melanie Bowen recently approached me about writing a guest post for my blog.  I was honored that she wanted to provide content for my blog and delighted when I found out the topic of the post. Maintaining good fitness level will not cure cancer, but it may relieve some of the symptoms associated with it.  Cancer survivors who engage in an appropriate level of exercise have a higher quality of life, increased energy level and the strength needed to get through a very difficult period … [Read more...]
